1. News Studios
News studios must have a ceiling height of no less than 3 meters. A height of 3.5 meters is preferable for hanging lighting fixtures to achieve optimal lighting distribution. For spaces taller than 4 meters, the design may include a lighting grid layer. Generally, fixed aluminum tracks are installed. Background lights and backlights are mounted on sliding fixtures that attach directly to the tracks. For equipment layers or higher ceilings, telescoping poles may be used for suspension. Key and fill lights fixtures are positioned at a height of around 2 meters, thus, constant force or motorized hinges are generally required to adjust their height.
2. Interview Studios
Lighting in studios designed for talk shows and interviews often needs to be adjusted. It’s advisable to design several fixed tracks with universal joints to support movable tracks below. This allows lighting fixtures to be moved and adjusted in all directions. Alternatively, a complete setup of fixed tracks, complemented by omnidirectional power outlets for the lights, facilitates easy adjustments without the need to alter the tracks themselves. If the studio has a ceiling height of 4.2 meters, all lights should be equipped with motorized or constant force hinges; if the ceiling is lower, only the key lights may need hinges for adjustment.
3. Virtual Studios
Virtual studios require comprehensive lighting to ensure even illumination throughout the space without any dead zones. Once the lighting fixtures are in place, they typically do not need to be adjusted. Thus, fixtures are usually mounted on fixed tracks. U-shaped tracks can be used for three-sided background lighting, while straight tracks are used for backlights, top lights, and key lights. Key lights may be equipped with motorized or constant force hinges.
4. Variety Studios
Variety studios often utilize multifunctional horizontal booms for mounting lighting fixtures. When budget allows, shorter booms are preferred for their flexibility in lighting adjustment and easier maintenance. Common horizontal booms range from 4 to 6 meters in length. To accommodate the hanging needs of some lighting effects equipment, the booms should operate smoothly and quietly, with a lifting capacity of over 250kg. Lifting mechanisms can be either wire winding assemblies or a compound lifting structure with moving and fixed pulleys. The latter ensures no wire entanglement, providing even lifting speed and stable operation. Due to the structure of horizontal booms, it can be challenging to adjust the height difference for lights or effect equipment, so incorporating some single-point vertical booms is also advisable in variety studios. These allow for the installation of specific lighting effects equipment. Furthermore, motorized hinges can be added to the multifunctional horizontal booms to meet diverse lighting height requirements, accommodating the special functional needs of some studios.
